The Emerald Princess missed its called Monday at Princess Cruises’ private island, Princess Cays, due to the ship’s power outage on Sunday, 90 minutes after its departure from Fort Lauderdale.
Princess said the ship lost power at approximately 6:30 p.m. Sunday, leaving the ship without propulsion until approximately 11 p.m., when it was restored. Power for hotel services was restored intermittently during that time.
Passengers, crew or the ship were never in danger, Princess said. The U.S. Coast Guard gave clearance to the ship.
Princess said it is investigating why the power failure occurred. A technician will join the ship in St. Maarten on Wednesday to help determine the cause.
Once it fully determines why the power went out, Princess said it can assess the total impact to the ship’s itinerary, and then provide an update on passenger compensation.
The Emerald Princess is sailing a seven-day Eastern Caribbean cruise, scheduled to return on Sunday, Aug. 1.
