Carnival Cruise Lines is introducing live karaoke on its ships, a new kind of karaoke performed in front of a live band and backup singers.
Called Superstar Live Karaoke, Carnival passengers take the stage with a microphone, accompanied by professional musicians playing electric guitar, bass, drums and keyboards, and backup singers that provide harmonies.
Carnival said that the free activity combines two popular forms of entertainment — live music by talented musicians and karaoke.
“Superstar Live Karaoke takes Carnival’s participatory fun to a new level with our guests unleashing their vocal talents and fulfilling their musical fantasies while fronting a great live band,” said Carnival CEO Gerry Cahill in a statement.
The program recently debuted on the Carnival Conquest and Carnival Valor and will premiere on the Carnival Pride this week. It will be introduced to the balance of the line’s 12 ships that operate itineraries of seven days or longer by year’s end, Carnival said.
Passengers that wish to participate must sign up with the ship’s host in a designated Superstar Live Karaoke lounge onboard; participation is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Currently, there are more than 100 song titles to choose from.
